Drummond hails “exciting new step for bilateral defence relations” as Qatar/UK MoU signed on Military Academy Development
British Chargé d'Affaires and Head of Mission Roddy Drummond has welcomed the London signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Armed Forces of Qatar and the British Armed Forces.
Brigadier Hamed Ahmed Ali Al Noaimi, Commander of the Ahmed bin Mohammed Military College and Air Vice Marshal Christopher Nickols, UK Assistant Chief of the Defence Staff (Operations), signed the MoU on 01 July 2008 at the conclusion of a successful session of joint UK-Qatar staff talks.
Under the agreement, the British Armed Forces are committed to assisting the staff of the Ahmed bin Mohammed College to develop a military course for cadets attending the College. As of September this year, 3 experienced British officers will join the Qatar Armed Forces on a two-year secondment.
Drummond expressed his delight at the conclusion of the agreement: “we have been working hard to achieve this result for some time and it is yet another exciting step for our bilateral defence relations that will bring immense benefit to both countries.”
